George John Jennings was born in Chantelly, Paris around 1858, son of Thomas (Tom) Jennings (1823-12 December 1900), trainer of racehorses, and his wife Mary Ann née Pratt (1832-12 September 1919), who married on 7 September 1851. George had a brother Frederic Henry who was baptised in Paris on 9 October 1854. In 1871, George was a boarding pupil at a school in College Street, Bury St Edmund’s, Suffolk and in 1881, an unmarried ‘artist painter’ living at Cockfield Hall, Suffolk, the home of his brother Frederic, a farmer & bricklayer employing 31 people, with a housekeeper and a domestic servant, his brother continued living at Cockfield until his death in 1920. In 1901, George was a 43-year-old ‘artist (pictures)’, living at Snailwell Road, Newmarket, Suffolk with his 68-year-old widowed mother Mary Ann, born Desford, Leicestershire, with siblings Charles Richard 35, a retired saddler, Frank 25, an architect, Emily (1862-1902), Maria Rose 28, all born at Newmarket, and they had four domestic servants. In 1911, George was an unmarried ‘owner of trawling fish boats’, living at Walberswick, Suffolk. George John Jennings was of Greenway Park, End Lane, Shalford Green, Essex when he died at The Manor House, Gay Bowers, Danbury, Chelmsford, Essex on 9 August 1948, aged 91
